One of the peaks of this concert season will certainly be the performance of the renowned Tchaikovsky Quartet which enjoys a magnificent reputation in Russian musical-cultural life. The string quartet, founded by graduates of the Moscow Conservatory in 1975, made such a fresh, relaxed, and virtuosic debut that same year at the Bela Bartok international festival in Budapest that they won over both jury and public, taking home a gold medal. In a short time, they became the leading string quartet in Russia. Their expertise and knowledge emerges from the long and world-renowned tradition of Russian music schools. The quartet’s performances combine a profound sense of the dramatic with a technical refinement that brings the music directly to the listeners. Enthusiastic critics and listeners are continually discovering that the sound and the colour of the quartet can be compared with the wealth and beauty of an orchestra. After a concert in Italy, one critic wrote: “The musicians showed extraordinary technical execution and created a sound of many colours. It is a rare talent that can conceive music in such a way. The expressively slow phraseology created a refined sound and the metaphysical dimension of pianissimo, thus awakening a strong emotion…”

Program:
A.Borodin: Quartet No. 2 in D major.
P.I. Tchaikovsky: Quartet No. 3 in Eb major, op. 30.
